Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is a dynamic, high-impact learning model where academic institutions from around the world collaborate through virtual, project-based curricula. As a neutral, brandable, and turnkey platform that's streamlined, accessible, and invented to increase global connections, Linkr was basically built for COIL programs.

Case in Point: TIEC & Linkr

The Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) has taken COIL implementation to the next level by using Linkr to launch its own private social network to host its learning community. Faculty from TIEC's member institutions can join, build and co-manage courses, connect students with international peers, and also access a rich and shared resource library. Best of all? This partnership is rooted in collaboration. Linkr is using feedback from TIEC members to tweak and dial upcoming new features. Soon, subgroups in classes and built-in scheduling will make COIL collabs run smoother and scale faster.

One of the biggest outcomes: better student writing.

Students become more engaged when writing for their peers. Work can be published to the class, group, or entire network, where colleagues can like, share, and discuss work in real-time - like any social media platform. When the audience Instead of assignments that only reach an instructor’s desk, Linkr gives students a real, international audience for their ideas full of people whose opinions they value. That peer-to-peer interaction drives deeper reflection, creativity, and motivation to excel.

Why Linkr Matters For COIL:

  • Fosters meaningful, real-time international collaboration

  • Removes barriers for faculty and students alike

  • Delivers COIL-ready tools that evolve with teacher and peer review

Supporting COIL During Challenging Times

Today’s international education landscape faces persistent headwinds in the form of funding freezes, visa restrictions, and policy shifts that have disrupted traditional global exchange models and even stranded scholars mid-program (AP News, The Washington Post). In these times, COIL represents more than innovation, it’s resilience. With Linkr, institutions can sustain global collaboration, regardless of external uncertainty.

Whether you're a faculty innovator, international education leader, or institutional administrator, COIL can help your institution stay afloat and even thrive, when in-person exchange faces hurdles.
